Retired Bishop Beverly Shamana
Elected in 2000 and served the California-Nevada Conference of the United Methodist Church.  She retired in 2008.

 


 

Bishop Leontyne T. Kelly
The first African American woman elected Bishop in the United Methodist Church and any other major denomination.  She was elected in 1984 and served the San Francisco Area.  She retired in 1988.

Bishop Kelly was also the Bishop that facilitated the organizing efforts of the Black Clergy Women of the UMC
